Head of Operations Excellence


The Head of Operations Excellence is responsible for providing overall leadership, direction and guidance to the following functions and their respective teams: Continuous Improvement, Business Architecture, Quality & Compliance, and Operations Projects & Implementation [remove if not part of market structure]. 

This role is to lead all sub-functions to ensure delivery of organizational strategic goals.  The specific accountabilities for this role include:


Proactive Leadership and Management of Direct Reports:

Provide effective team leadership and daily management if the heads of the four sub-functions, ensuring planning and efficient allocation of resources to achieve required operational excellence outcomes.

Develop a team culture that constructively collaborates cross-functionally and across markets to deliver superior customer-centric business benefits whilst minimizing business risk.


Develop and Implement Continuous Improvement Programs:

Establish and implement regionally aligned programmes & frameworks that drive CL Operations performance improvement through process re-engineering to delivery efficiency and productivity benefits, standardization and application of standards, and best practice sharing.

Drive a culture of continuous improvement by leveraging agreed industry-leading tools, techniques and methodologies (with a focus on business aligned LEAN, 6Sigma and Industrial Engineering approaches) to identify and implement improvements.


Leverage digitization through Business Architecture:

Ensure high level of Business Architecture collaboration across functions, and in particular Operations to drive efficiencies derived from digitization opportunities.

Set direction that supports development and execution of regional and market-specific business architecture strategies and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall strategic objectives.  


Quality and Compliance Management:

Ensure the development and implementation of quality management systems and processes to meet the company's quality objectives and compliance obligations.

Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards, including but not limited to, ISO 9001 and 14001, OHSAS 18001, TAPA and relevant customer and supplier quality requirements.


Operations Projects & Implementations Governance and Disciplines:

Ensure governance and compliance to business mandated processes of all operations projects and implementations within the area of responsibility; including cross-border governance activity support as required.

Ensure all projects are managed with strong project disciplines, including scope and scope change management, schedule management, resource and project team management, budget and procurement management, risk management, quality management, stakeholder and communication management.

Provide a mature team leadership and highly competent project management skillset to oversee, govern, and when required, directly manage operations projects to deliver agreed solutions through competent project management disciplines that minimize business risk.  Serve as an escalation point.


Coaching and Training:

Establish and track the functional skills matrix, conduct training needs analysis to design and deliver effective training plans across required business processes, project management disciplines, hard and soft skills, leadership, financial and commercial management, operations and technology.

Ensure coaching and training is aligned both to the individual’s personal development needs and business needs.

Maintain a systematic training and coaching approach to support resources achieve higher skills, capabilities, competencies and expertise within suitable and achievable timeframes.


•    Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a senior operations leadership role, including site P&L accountability, with a proven track record of delivering operational excellence across multiple functions and teams.

•    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, logistics and supply chain, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification such as MBA, PMP, Six Sigma, or Lean Certification is preferred.

•    A working understanding of all sub-function job roles, accountabilities and requirements 

•    Experience in developing and implementing continuous improvement programs (e.g. LEAN or 6Sigma) and driving a culture of continuous improvement.

•    A understanding of business architecture design, planning and implementation approaches, methodologies and tools, 

•    Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards, including but not limited to, ISO 9001 and 14001, OHSAS 18001, TAPA certifications

•    Strong project management skills, including the ability to coach and oversee team members, and directly manage complex projects as required

•    Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams and to manage resources effectively, both directly and remotely.

•    Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and information to a range of stakeholders, including senior executives.

•    Strong analytical skills with good commercial and technical understanding in the context of a logistics and supply chain environment

•    Fluent spoken and written English a requirement; other Asian language(s) are beneficial

•    Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency

•    Able to travel interstate and/or overseas on a project basis as required for agreed durations
